본 연구는 1980년대부터 2007년까지 발표된 국내 등재 후보이상의 전문 학술지에 개재된 영재교육에 대한 논문 총 347편을 분석하여 한국 영재교육의 전반적인 흐름과 함께 영재교육 연구대상의 대부분을 차지하고 있는 과학영재, 수학영재, 일반영재에 대한 연구경향을 살펴보았다. 전반적으로 영재에 대한 연구는 초기에 비해 그 주체와 대상이 점차 확산, 확대되어 다양한 접근과 다각적인 관점으로 발전되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 일반영재, 과학영재, 수학영재는 영재의 일반적인 흐름과 비슷한 경향을 보이지만 영재의 세부적인 특성과 그 대상에 있어서 약간의 차이를 보였다. 본 연구의 결과를 통해 향후 한국의 영재교육의 나아가야 할 방향성을 제시하는 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
