모바일 정보기술의 발전으로 시간과 공간의 제약을 극복한 스마트워크의 시대가 열렸다. 조직에서는 똑똑한 단말기와 끊김없는 접속을 통해 스마트워크에 적합한 업무 방식과 서비스를 제공하고 있으며, 나아가 스마트워크를 활용하여 조직 활동과 조정 및 협업 프로세스를 재구성하고 있다. 이러한 활동을 통해 조직의 생산성과 성과를 극적으로 향상시키고 있으며, 스마트워크에 대한 관심도 고조되고 있다. 하지만 높은 관심에도 불구하고 스마트워크를 통해 극복된 시공간 제약조건을 체계적으로 설명하는 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 성공적으로 스마트워크를 구축하여 운영 중인 서울도시철도의 사례(SMRT T&F)를 시간지리학의 제약조건에 기반한 프레임워크를 통해 분석하였다. SMRT T&F 사례 분석을 통해 조직에서 시간과 공간의 제약조건을 극복하는 과정뿐 아니라 스마트워크를 성공적으로 구축하기 위해 필요한 성공 요인을 도출하였다. 또한 본 연구의 이론적 실무적 시사점을 밝히고, 향후 스마트워크 관련 연구 방안에 대해서도 제시하였다.
