신혼기 부부에게 일어날 수 있는 문제로 무엇이 있는가? 신혼기 부부는 두 사람의 목표와 생활양식을 형성하고 타협하는 시기로(Pyo, 1997), 다른 환경에서 성장한 서로간의 이해가 매우 필요한 단계이다. 신혼기에 일어날 수 있는 문제들로는 부부간의 성격과 사고방식 차이로 인한 갈등 및 의사소통의 어려움, 배우자의 원가족과의 마찰, 배우자와의 성적 부적응 등을 들 수 있다(Jung & Kim, 2000; Lee, 2010). 또한 신혼기 관련 선행연구들로는 신혼기 결혼만족도 관련 연구(Yoo, 2010; Jeon 2012), 신혼기 성생활 관련 연구(Kim, 2002; Kang & Chun, 2003), 원가족과의 관계 연구(Yim, 2008), 신혼기 부부 의사소통 프로그램 연구(Yoo, 2010)등이 있지만 신혼기의 중요성에 비해 매우 미흡한 상황이다.
