다문화사회 실패의 원인은 무엇인가? 그러나 선진유럽사회의 잇따른 다문화정책 실패 선언은 한국사회의 다문화가족지원이 과연 성공적인 다문화사회를 이룩하기 위한 방향으로 진행되어가고 있는가에 대해 점검을 해야 하는 계기가 되었다. 특히 증가하는 이주민과 선주민 간의 불화합(폭력사태 등)이 다문화사회 실패의 원인이었다는 점은 국내 다문화정책에서 간과해서는 안 될 사안이 되었고, 지속적인 다문화가정의 증가가 예고된 지금, 안정적인 다문화사회를 만들기 위한 검토된 대응책을 개발하기 위한 노력이 필요한 때인 것이다. 즉, 이주민의 안정적인 정착을 지원하고, 선주민들의 이주민에 관한 긍정적인 관심을 이끌 수 있는 ‘다문화수용태도’를 배양하는 것을 올바른 다문화사회로 가기 위한 주된 다문화정책의 목표로 삼아야 할 것이다.
