본 연구는 국내 교회도서관 자원봉사 운영에 대한 전반적인 현황과 문제점을 파악하여 개선 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 101개 교회도서관을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 그 결과 72개(71.2%) 교회도서관으로부터 담당자용 73부(응답률 68.2%)와 자원봉사자용 221부(응답률 79.4%)를 회수하였다. 조사 결과 교회도서관 업무 전반에 자원봉사가 활용되고 있으며 자원봉사자들은 자원봉사활동에 대부분 만족하고 있으나 교육과 지속적인 동기부여가 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 자원봉사자 활용 업무와 보상에 대하여 담당자와 자원봉사자 사이에 인식 차이가 있음을 발견하였다. 이를 바탕으로 교회도서관 자원봉사 운영 및 관리요소와 제반 환경에 대한 개선 방안을 제시하였다.
