2018년 이러닝 수요 시장 규모는 어느 정도 인가? 또한, 정해진 방식에 따라 단계별로 시청할 필요 없이 원하는 콘텐츠에 바로 접근할 수 있어 개인 맞춤 특성이 강하다. 이런 특성에 바탕하여 2018년 이러닝 수요 시장 규모는 3조 8,450억 원에 이르며(National IT Industry Promotion Agency, 2018), 개인 수요도 2017년 대비 7% 증가하는 등 2014년 이후 꾸준히 늘고 있다(Ahn, 2019). 실제로 기존 이러닝(E-learning) 이외에 Korea Open Course Ware(KOCW), Korean Massive Open Online Course(KMOOC) 등 무료 온라인 교육도 증가하였고 플립러닝(flipped learning), 블렌디 드러닝(blended learning) 등 현장강의와 온라인강의 를 접목한 다양한 형태의 교육이 등장하고 있다
