In this study, the morphological development and early life cycle of larvae and juvenile Rhinogobius brunneus found in Wicheon, Nakdong River, Korea, were investigated. The fertilized eggs were 2.20×0.68 mm (long×short) in diameter. The eggs began hatching approximately 104 h after fertilization at water temperatures of 17.3-20.5℃ (mean 18.9±1.6℃). The newly hatched yolk-sac larvae were 3.71±0.06 mm in total length (TL), with an unopened anus. Three days after hatching, the preflexion larvae were 4.37±0.16 mm in TL with yolk absorption. Twenty days after hatching, the flexion larvae were 6.50±0.22 mm in TL and the tip of the notochord was bent upward. Twenty-seven days after hatching, the postflexion larvae were 11.8±0.63 mm in TL, and the tip of the urostyle was bent at 45°. Forty days after hatching, individuals measured 18.5±0.93 mm in TL and were considered as juveniles as the number of fins became constant for each part. All the postflexion larvae had detached fins. Additionally, the melanophore was observed to be distributed on the head, centrum of the body, and dorsal fin, and there was a difference in the morphology from the water stream.

흑색소포는 입 끝부분, 눈과 아가미 아래쪽에 침착하였고, 머리 부분에는 황색소포가 전체적으로 침착하였다. 각 부위별 지느러미 기조 수는 제1등지느러미 4개, 제2등지느러미 10개, 뒷지느러미 9개로 증가하였다(Fig. 4H).

부화 12일후중기자어는전장 6.20–6.83 mm (평균 6.50±0.22 mm, n=20)로 등지느러미와 뒷지느러미에는 7개의 기조가 발달하였고, 꼬리지느러미에는 10개의 기조가 발달하였다
부화 25일후중기자어는전장 8.99–11.2 mm (평균 9.87±0.56 mm, n=20)로 머리와 등 윗부분에 침착한 황색소포는 분포 범위가 넓어졌고, 몸의 정중앙에도 침착하였다
부화 30일후후기자어는전장 12.3–15.1 mm (평균 13.8±0.85 mm, n=20)로 막으로 된 배지느러미에는 5개의 기조가 발달하였고, 몸 전체에 침착된 흑색소포는 분포 범위가 더욱 넓어졌다(Fig
부화 3일 후 전기자어는 전장 4.06–4.59 mm (평균 4.37±0.16 mm, n=20)로 난황과 유구는 모두 흡수하였고, 먹이 섭취활동이 확인되었다
부화 직후 난황자어는 전장 3.60–3.81 mm (평균 3.71±0.06 mm, n=20)로 부화 직후 중층에 떠있었으며 유영능력은 크게 없었다
실내 사육 중 2021년 4월 산란유도를 위해 넣어준 유목과 수조벽면에 산란한 것을 확인하였고(Fig. 2), 수정란은 유리 사각수조(60×45×45 cm)에서 별도 관리하였다.
실험어 크기는 암컷 전장 4.5–5.5 cm (평균 5.1±0.39 cm, n=5), 수컷 전장 5.5–6.5 cm (평균 6.0±0.34 cm, n=5)였다(Fig
유목과 수조 벽면에 산란된 암컷의 산란량은 1,872–2,496개 (2,184±312개)였고, 난의 형태는 긴 타원형이였으며, 난의 색깔은 연녹색이었다
치어기 밀어는 흑색소포 분포범위가 넓어지면서 몸 전체에 불규칙적으로 침착되었고, 제2등지느러미와 뒷, 가슴, 꼬리지느러미 기조 위쪽에도 침착하였으며, 제1등지느러미와 배지느러미 시작점에서는 새롭게 발달하였다. 또한 이 시기의 흑색소포는 7개의 반점으로 된 무늬 패턴을 보였다.

후속연구

본 연구에서 후기자어기 구분은 미부봉상골이 45°로 완전히 휘어졌을 때를 기준으로 비교하였으며, 이때 large dark type B 와 cross band type은 척추 끝 말단부분이 휘어지는 시점인 중기자어기 형태 기재가 누락되어 향후 근연종간의 자치어 성장 단계별 기준을 판단하기 위해서는 동일한 사육환경 조건과 판단기준이 필요하다고 생각된다.
어류의 초기생활사를 연구하는데 있어 성장에 따른 자치어의 흑색소포 분포 형태 및 위치, 외부 형태적 특징은 종을 동정하는데 도움이 될 수 있는 중요한 기초자료가 될 것으로 생각된다. 최근 우리나라에 보고된 담수 및 기수역의 망둑어과 어류는 39종으로 그 중 초기생활사가 규명된 종은 10여종 정도로 아직까지 많은 연구가 필요하다.
이들은 내륙의 하천 및 댐·호, 기수역의 갯벌, 연안 해역, 조수웅덩이 등 다양한 환경에 적응해 살아가는 종으로 어류 가운데 가장 많은 종수를 기록하고 있는 반면 이들의 생태학적 정보는 매우 부족한 실정이다. 향후 망둑어류의 초기생활사 규명을 위해서는 자연에서 관찰하기 어려운 종을 대상으로 실험실에서 인공사육을 통한 다양한 연구도 필요할 것으로 생각된다.
