최근 4차 산업혁명 시대에 부응하여 스마트 팩토리 수요가 증가하고 있다. 스마트 팩토리는 기본적으로 방대한 데이터를 기반으로 하는 제조업으로 많은 데이터 처리를 위한 IT 서비스를 필요로 하게 되고 이는 데이터센터의 건립을 가속화하고 있다. 데이터센터의 전산장비는 발열부하와 사용시간 측면에서 일반적인 시설의 냉방 기술과는 다른 차원으로 접근이 필요하다. 본 연구는 최근 데이터센터 냉방 시스템 설계에서 검토해야 할 요인과 기술 변화 트렌드를 조사하고 사례기업의 시설 구성을 위한 각종 기술적 방식을 비교 검토하여 설계안을 결정하는 프로세스를 도출하고 결론에 해당하는 개념 설계안을 제시하고자 한다.
