Porterie, B. , Loraud, J. C.
A field model is developed for estimating the risk from fires in ventilated enclosures. Turbulent combustion is modeled by using the eddy dissipation concept coupled with the renormalization group (RNG) k - k turbulence model. Radiative heat transfers that result mainly from the production of soot particles are described using the discrete ordinates method (DOM). A soot model that involves the solution of transport equations for soot volume fraction and soot number density incorporating soot nucleation, surface growth, agglomeration, and oxidation processes is included. A finite volume method is employed for the solution of the problem, using a high-order convective ultrasharp technique and a projection method for the treatment of the pressure-velocity coupling.
