수동형 채집기(passive sampler)는 해양환경에서 자유롭게 용존되어 해양생물이 이용하고, 생물 농축 및 독성에 직접적인 영향을 줄 수 있는 자유용존상 농도(freely dissolved concentration, Cfree)에 대한 정보를 제공한다. 수동형 채집기는 해수 및 퇴적물 공극수 중의 매우 낮은 농도의 오염물질에 대해 검출이 가능하며, 용존상에 포함되는 콜로이드나 용존유기탄소(dissolved organic carbon, DOC)의 간섭 없이 자유용존상 농도를 직접 측정할 수 있다. 또한 노출기간 동안의 오염물질 평균농도를 제시할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 보다 효율적인 해양환경 관리를 위한 수동형 채집기의 필요성 및 장점에 대해 파악하고, 다양한 해양환경에서 난분해성 유기오염물질을 분석대상으로 한 수동형 채집기가 적용된 연구사례들에 대해 고찰하였다.
