This paper describes an experimental program in which a heat activated silicone foam has been developed. The material foams only when heated at an elevated temperature, e. g. , 100 to 150 degree C. If not heated, it will cure slowly at room temperature to give an elastomeric material after a few days. The density of the foam ranges from 7 to 20 lbs/ft**3, depending on the foaming condition. The structure of the foam is similar to that of honeycomb. The cell is open in the longitudinal direction, but closed in the transversal direction.
