Objectives: The authors have performed the clinical study on the plague removal effect and the subside of gingivitis effect, by use of the newly developed electric toothbrush with the micro vibrating action, through the rolling method of toothbrushing. Methods: Twenty-nine volunteers, aged 20 to 49 who had visited for receiving the preventive cares at the department of preventive dental clinic of Dankook Dental Hospital, were participated in this study. Micro-vibrating electric toothbrushes and the similar head shaped toothbrushes were supplied to all subjects and let them perform the toothbrushing on rolling method with the electric toothbrush for one part, either in right side or left, as well as applying with the normal toothbrush at the other part in the mouth, for 2 weeks. PHP index and PMA index were examined at maxillary anterior teeth, both in the experimental portion and in the control, by a dentist who majored in preventive dentistry, with the single blind method. The oral exams were performed on the first visit, one or two days without toothbrushing, 1 day, 2 days, 1 week and 2 weeks after toothbrushing according to the direction. The data of the PHP and PMA were collected both in the group on the experimental and in the control, and compared each other. Results: It was no difference of the PHP index between in the experimental and the control group, on the first visit, and remarkable increased without toothbrushing for 1 or 2 days but there was no statistically significant difference between each group. The PHP index were slightly lower in experimental group than in control, on toothbrushing for 1 and 2 days (p<0.05). It revealed that PHP index were lower in experimental group than in control on toothbrushing for I and 2 weeks, and it was statistically significant difference (p<0.05). There was no difference of the PMA index between in the experimental and the control group, on the first visit, and slightly increased the PMA index, without toothbrushing for 1 or 2 days, but it revealed, slightly higher of PMA score in experimental group than in control, for no toothbrushing for 2 days (p0.05). It revealed that PMA index was lower in experimental group than in control on toothbrushing for 1 and 2 weeks, and it was statistically significant difference (p<0.05). Conclusions: Micro vibrating acted electric toothbrush was recommended to use on the toothbrushing with rolling method, for plaque removal effect and subside of early gingivitis as one of the oral-physio therapy for individual in clinical.
