The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of fat oxidation and fitness about male and female during maximal exercise. The subject were fifty-two health adult volunteers(32 male & 20 female). They were divided into male and female. Following an overnight fast, each subject finished stretching and warm-up for ten minute, followed by a maximal BRUCE protocol treadmill test. For both groups, subjects were measured Oxygen uptake(VO2), total kilocalories per minute(T㎉), fat kilocalories per minute(F㎉), fat oxidation rate(%Fat) at 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% of VO2max, respectively. The dependent variables in this study consisted of two parts, body composition and metabolic variables. To compare the difference of body composition between groups, independent groups t-test was used. Mixed design two-way ANOVA were used for compare the metabolic variables. The statistical significance was set at .05. The results were obtained as followings. 1. There was a significant difference VO2 among exercise intensities and between groups. 2. There was a significant difference Tkcal between groups. However, Into female group not significant difference between 40% and 50%VO2max, between 50% and 60%VO2max, respectively. 3. There was a significant difference Fkcal between groups. However, Into male group not significant difference only between 30% and 40%VO2max. Into female group not significant difference including between 30% and 40%VO2max at three cases. 4. There was a significant difference %Fat among exercise intensities and between groups. These results suggest that VO2(fitness) of male group highter than female group. It was found that maximal fat oxidation of male group was 50%VO2max, and female group was 40%VO2max. The result of this study with preceded research look forward to helping to make exercise programs and training for decreased body fat.
