This article aims to study the code of violence in film and its traditional relationship with the gangster-genre, and to analyze the film 〈Reservoir Dogs〉 by Quentin Tarantino. Tarnatino and his films made issues between the commercial success and the social-cultural criticism, and caused specially, more than any other directors, discourses about violence in film-media. But Tarantino makes film on principle in the traditional frame of gangster-genre and thus, this study will show that, shapes the cinematic code of violence. Therefore, what he wants to express, is the structural violence of the gangster-genre as cinematic system, not the imitation or promotion of the real violence. For that reason, the interest of the spectator in Tarantino"s film, that on principle involves the violence as thematic and artistic crux, should be focused on the horizon to the tradition of genre film. But Tarantino accepts just indirectly the tradition of violent expression of the gangster-genre. That ist; he uses indeed conventional apparatus of the typical gangster-genre, but enjoys changing and converting it in parts for his own artistic direction of violence, and making particular narrative techniques and arrangements of images through various cinematic experiments. Finally, he attempts to create new grammar of the gangster-genre. This play with genre in relation to the characteristic design of violence makes one of the most important parts of Tarantino"s own cinematic stylization.
