The Mononoke appearing in the part of Seihen and that in the part of Ujijyujyo in Genjimonogatari play very important parts in the development of the novel. But there are both common and different features in the characteristics of the Mononke appearing in the part of Seihen and Ujijyujyo. To begin with, there are some different features in the disposition of Mononoke appearing in the part of Seihen and Ujijyujyo. The psychological disposition of the Mononoke in the part of Seihen is very strong, while that in the part of Ujijyujyo is very weak. The main cause of appearing of the Mononoke in the part of Seihen consists in the emotions such as jealousy and humiliation happening in the men and women relationships. But such a tendency can hardly be seen in the part of Ujijyujyo. The death periods of the characters related to the Mononke in the part of Seihen are concentrated in the middle of August, but such a tendency can hardly be seen in the part of Ujijyujyo. There are also some common features both in the part of Seihen and Ujijyujyo that there are overwhelmingly many dead spirits who cherished grudge appearing as the Mononoke, and there are also overwhelmingly many women characters who become like the Mononke or are obsessed with the Mononke. There are also a clear characteristic that as a whole, the Mononoke showing up in Genjimonogatari has little to do with the political problems.
