Is it impossible matching a environmental conservation to an urban development planning? The objective of this study is to apply landscape ecology in the urban planning, in case of Songnam city, and test the possibility of an ecological and physical urban planning. Remote sensing image, IKONOS satellite imagery of resolution 1㎞ by 1㎞, were used the basic spatial data in this study. Processing the original image and analyzing this processed, classifying and drawing the diverse patches and corridors on matrix of Songnam city. As a whole, two residential districts were surrounded by the forest patch but this patch has been divided into four. The major fact of this dividing was the road(two crossed highways). In the city, not only many patches have been isolated from the main forest landscape but also the stream corridors have been damaged. In a view point of problem-solving, need of an ecological network in our urban planning process is proposed. The proposed network is composed of main patch(forest landscape), ecological corridors(stream and forest), and buffer zones. First of all, a concept plan by the landscape ecological principles is suggested for Pangyo new city constructing plan. Through this case study, it was tested that the matching of the urban physical and the landscape ecological planning is possible. I hope that the city development planning in all cities of Kyonggi province is accorded with landscape ecological planning, with the visualized analysis and plan.
