The present invention relates to sealant films comprising a first sealant layer which readily and easily delaminates or peels from a second adjacent film layer. The first sealant layer and the second adjacent layer of the sealant film of the present invention comprise propylene or ethylene moieties
The present invention relates to sealant films comprising a first sealant layer which readily and easily delaminates or peels from a second adjacent film layer. The first sealant layer and the second adjacent layer of the sealant film of the present invention comprise propylene or ethylene moieties wherein the propylene or ethylene moieties may be homopolymers or copolymers. The film structures of the present invention can be used independently, or laminated to a second film structure wherein the second film structure may comprise a single layer or multiple layers. The sealant films of the present invention can be heat sealed to a packaging component, such as a tray either as a single film structure or as a laminate comprising a second film structure. The sealant film structures of the present invention are particularly useful as retortable lidstock.

What is claimed is: 1. A sealant film comprising a first sealant layer and a second adjacent layer, wherein the first sealant layer is in direct contact with the second adjacent layer and comprises a polymer blend of two or more polymers, and the second adjacent layer comprises a polymer that is present in the polymer blend in the first sealant layer and an α-olefin copolymer, wherein the first sealant layer and the second adjacent layer form a peelable bond. 2. The sealant film of claim 1, wherein the polymer blend in first sealant layer comprises a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyethylenes (PE), ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), polypropylenes (PP), propylene ethylene copolymers (PPE), ethylene normal butyl acrylate copolymer (ENBA), ethylene methyl acrylic acid copolymer (EMAA), ethylene acrylic acid (EAA), ethylene methylacrylate (EMA), and ionomers. 3. The sealant film of claim 1, wherein the polymer in the second adjacent layer, that is present in the polymer blend in the first sealant layer, is selected from the group consisting of polyethylenes (PE), ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), polypropylenes (PP), propylene ethylene copolymers (PPE), ethylene normal butyl acrylate copolymer (ENBA), ethylene methyl acrylic acid copolymer (EMAA), ethylene acrylic acid (EAA), ethylene methylacrylate (EMA), and ionomers. 4. The sealant film of claim 1, wherein the first sealant layer comprises polypropylene in an amount greater than about 50% by weight of the first sealant layer, and the second adjacent layer comprises polyethylene. 5. The sealant film of claim 4, wherein the first sealant layer comprises polypropylene in an amount from about 60% to about 100% by weight of the first sealant layer. 6. The sealant film of claim 2, wherein the polymer blend in first sealant layer comprises a polypropylene polymer that is polypropylene or propylene ethylene copolymer. 7. The sealant film of claim 2, wherein the polymer blend in first sealant layer comprises a polypropylene polymer and the second adjacent layer comprises a blend of a propylene polymer and an ethylene α-olefin copolymer. 8. The sealant film of claim 1, wherein the second adjacent layer comprises up to about 40% by weight of the ethylene α-olefin copolymer. 9. The sealant film of claim 1, wherein the first sealant layer has a thickness from about 0.1 mils to about 1 mil. 10. The sealant film of claim 1, wherein the first sealant layer has a thickness from about 5% to about 20% of the total thickness of the sealant film. 11. The sealant film of claim 1, wherein the second adjacent layer has a thickness from about 0.2 mils to about 1 mil. 12. The sealant film of claim 1, having one or more layers comprising a color concentrate in a polymer base. 13. The sealant film of claim 12, wherein the polymer base is polypropylene. 14. The sealant film of claim 1, further comprising a third polymeric layer comprising a polymer, or polymer blend comprising a polymer, wherein the polymer in the third polymeric layer is selected from the group consisting of polyethylenes (PE), ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), polypropylenes (PP), propylene ethylene copolymers (PPE), ethylene normal butyl acrylate copolymer (ENBA), ethylene methyl acrylic acid copolymer (EMAA), ethylene acrylic acid (EAA), ethylene methylacrylate (EMA), and ionomers. 15. The sealant film of claim 1, further comprising a third polymeric layer comprising a propylene polymer. 16. The sealant film of claim 15, wherein the propylene polymer in the third polymeric layer is polypropylene or propylene ethylene copolymer. 17. The sealant film of claim 15, wherein said second adjacent layer is in direct contact with said third polymeric layer. 18. The sealant film of claim 15, wherein said second adjacent layer and said third polymeric layers are separated by one or more additional layers. 19. The sealant film of claim 1, wherein said sealant film is laminated to a second film structure. 20. The sealant film of claim 19, wherein the second film structure comprises a first layer of polyethylene terephthalate; a second layer of a pigmented adhesive; a third layer of vinylidene chloride methylacrylate copolymer; a fourth layer of adhesive; a fifth layer of biaxially oriented nylon; and a sixth layer of adhesive. 21. The sealant film of claim 19, wherein the second film structure comprises a first layer of a foil or glass coated polyethylene terephthalate; a second layer of adhesive; a third layer of a biaxially oriented nylon; and a fourth layer of adhesive. 22. The sealant film of claim 1, further comprising one or more barrier layers. 23. The sealant film of claim 1, further comprising one or more adhesive or tie layers. 24. A package comprising a tray and the film structure of claim 1. 25. The package of claim 24 wherein the first sealant layer of the film structure and the tray both comprise predominantly polypropylene.
