Systems, devices and methods are provided, for acquiring and dispensing predetermined volumes of liquids and, in particular, to a unique piezoelectric dispenser for acquiring and dispensing of small volumes of fluid in an automatic or manual production of DNA arrays and assays, wherein droplets are dispensed in a single drop format with volumes that may range from about a few picoliters to several nanoliters. The dispenser can advantageously utilize a disposable capillary tube assembly while desirably retaining the piezoelectric actuator for subsequent further uses, thereby mitigating the possibility of cross contamination of fluids and providing an economical and cost effective approach with reuse of the piezoelectric actuator for further operation such as with a variety of liquids to be dispensed and transferred. A unique longitudinal transducer can transmit radial tube displacement into controlled axial motion of the tube.

The method of claim 1, wherein the coupling between the tube and the flexible supply line provides a self aligning feature. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the flexible supply line comprises a plastic or thermoplastic. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the flexible supply line comprises polypropylene (PP). 5. The method of claim 3, wherein the flexible supply line comprises polyether ether ketone (PEEK). 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the flexible supply line has an inner diameter of about 500 μm or less. 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the flexible supply line has an inner diameter of about 250 μm. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the tube comprises an aperture plate that defines the aperture. 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the aperture plate is gold plated. 10. The method of claim 9, wherein the aperture plate is electro-formed. 11. The method of claim 9, wherein the gold plated aperture plate is coated with self assembled monolayer (SAM). 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the self assembled monolayer comprises Poly (ETHYLENE GLYCOL) methyl ether thiol CH3O(CH2CH2O)Nch2ch2SH. 13. A dispenser for transferring a predetermined quantity of a liquid, comprising: a longitudinal transducer, comprising: a tube having a length, a wall with a predetermined thickness, a lumen with a predetermined size or diameter, and a tip at a distal end of the tube; anda piezoelectric actuator operatively coupled to the tube at a location proximal of the tip;an aperture at the tip of the tube; anda flexible supply line located upstream of the tube and configured to supply a liquid to the tube that is to be dispensed into or onto one or more targets, wherein the liquid is loaded within the tube;wherein actuation of the piezoelectric actuator causes a pressure wave to propagate from said location of the tube toward the tip of the tube such that radial motion at said location of the tube is transmitted as distally extending axial motion of the tip of the tube, thereby causing a droplet of a predetermined volume to be ejected from the aperture. 14. The dispenser of claim 13, wherein the coupling between the tube and the flexible supply line provides a self aligning feature. 15. The dispenser of claim 13, wherein the flexible supply line comprises a plastic or thermoplastic. 16. The dispenser of claim 15, wherein the flexible supply line comprises polypropylene (PP). 17. The dispenser of claim 15, wherein the flexible supply line comprises polyether ether ketone (PEEK). 18. The dispenser of claim 13, wherein the flexible supply line has an inner diameter of about 500 82 m or less. 19. The dispenser of claim 18, wherein the flexible supply line has an inner diameter of about 250 μm. 20.
