A method of managing machine data includes managing machine operating data at a single mobile machine according to first data management parameters, collecting machine operation exception data associated with a plurality of mobile machines, using the machine operation exception data to determine second data management parameters, and managing machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the second data management parameters. The data management parameters may relate to the collection of data, the storage of data and/or the communication of data from a mobile machine to a remote computing device. The machine operation exception data may relate to machine component failure or degradation, and may be collected by one or more systems on the machine, by an external system in communication with the machine or by a person observing the machine.

The method as set forth in claim 1, the machine operation exception data including component pre-failure degradation data. 6. The method as set forth in claim 1, further comprising communicating the second data management parameters to the single mobile machine via a wireless connection during normal operation of the single mobile machine. 7. The method as set forth in claim 1, the step of managing the machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the first data management parameters including selecting machine operating data for communication from the single mobile machine to a remote computing device using a data selection process,the step of using the machine operation exception data to determine the second data management parameters including associating machine operating data with a machine component failure trend and changing the data selection process to select the machine operating data associated with the machine failure trend,the step of managing the machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the second data management parameters including selecting machine operating data from the single machine using the changed data selection process and communicating the selected data to the remote computing device. 8. The method as set forth in claim 1, the step of managing the machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the first data management parameters including collecting only machine operating data relating to machine operations that fall outside of a designated normal operating range,the step of using the machine operation exception data to determine the second data management parameters including adjusting the normal operating range such that machine operations associated with a failure trend fall outside of the normal operating range,the step of managing the machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the second data management parameters including collecting only machine operating data relating to machine operations that fall outside of the adjusted normal operating range. 9. The method as set forth in claim 1, further comprising— combining at least a portion of the first machine operating data from the single mobile machine with machine operating data associated with a plurality of other mobile machines; andusing the machine operation exception data and the combined machine operating data to determine the second data management parameters. 10. A system for managing machine data, the system comprising: one or more computing devices operable to— manage machine operating data at a single mobile machine according to first data management parameters;collect machine operation exception data associated with a plurality of mobile machines;use the machine operation exception data to determine second data management parameters; andmanage machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the second data management parameters. 11. The system as set forth in claim 10, the one or more computing devices further operable to collect the machine operation exception data from a plurality of machine service centers. 12. The system as set forth in claim 10 the one or more computing devices further operable to collect the machine operation exception data from a plurality of users, wherein the data is collected from each user via a user interface. 13. The system as set forth in claim 10, the one or more computing devices further operable to collect the machine operation exception data directly from one or more of the single mobile machine and the plurality of other mobile machines. 14. The system as set forth in claim 10, the machine operation exception data including component pre-failure degradation data. 15. The system as set forth in claim 10, the one or more computing devices further operable to communicate the second data management parameters to the single mobile machine via a wireless connection during normal operation of the single mobile machine. 16. The system as set forth in claim 10, wherein— managing the machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the first data management parameters includes selecting machine operating data for communication from the single mobile machine to a remote computing device using a data selection process,using the machine operation exception data to determine the second data management parameters includes associating machine operating data with a machine failure trend and changing the data selection process to select the machine operating data associated with the machine failure trend, andmanaging the machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the second data management parameters includes selecting machine operating data from the single machine using the changed data selection process and communicating the selected data to the remote computing device. 17. The system as set forth in claim 10, wherein— managing the machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the first data management parameters including collecting only machine operating data relating to machine operations that fall outside of a designated normal operating range,using the machine operation exception data to determine the second data management parameters including adjusting the normal operating range such that machine operations associated with a failure trend fall outside of the normal operating range, andmanaging the machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the second data management parameters including collecting only machine operating data relating to machine operations that fall outside of the adjusted normal operating range. 18. The system as set forth in claim 10, the one or more computing devices further operable to— combine at least a portion of the first machine operating data from the single mobile machine with machine operating data associated with a plurality of other mobile machines; anduse the machine failure data and the combined machine operating data to determine the second data management parameters. 19. The system as set forth in claim 10, wherein— managing the machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the first data management parameters includes operating a rolling cache to preserve portions of the machine operating data using a rolling cache management process,using the machine operation exception data to determine the second data management parameters includes associating machine operating data with a machine failure trend and changing the rolling cache management process to capture data associated with the machine failure trend, andmanaging the machine operating data at the single mobile machine according to the second data management parameters includes operating the rolling cache to preserve portions of the machine operating data using the changed rolling cache management process. 20. A method of managing machine data, the method comprising: collecting first machine operating data at a single mobile machine;selecting a first portion of the first machine operating data for communication to a remote computing device, the first portion being selected according to data selection parameters;communicating the first portion of the first machine operating data from the single mobile machine to a remote computing device;combining at least a portion of the first machine operating data from the single mobile machine with machine operating data associated with a plurality of other mobile machines;using machine failure data and the combined machine operating data to determine changes in the data selection parameters;collecting second machine operating data at the single mobile machine;selecting a second portion of the second machine operating data for communication to the remote computing device, the second portion being selected according to the changed data selection parameters; andcommunicating the second portion of the second operating data to the remote computing device.
