Fuels, such as gasoline, are oxidized in a combustion chamber, such as an automobile engine, with a substantial reduction in the amount of toxic materials (nitric oxide, carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons) formed. A mixture of oxygen and inert gases combine with the gasoline in a proportional mixer, the amount of nitrogen not exceeding 70% by weight of the mixture.
