An improved press-fit joint between a pipe, such as a length of pipe forming part of a section of pipeline in an irrigation system, and a pipe coupler used in connecting the ends of adjacent pipeline sections in the system. In forming the joint, a sheathing element of thin gauge material is mounted on an end portion of the pipe.
