An explosive composition capable of initiation by an exploding bridge wire comprising: from about 25 percent to about 50 percent by weight of hexanitrostilbene; from about 40 percent to about 70 percent by weight of a perhalogenate oxidizing agent; from about 1.5 percent to about 6 percent by weight of a sensitizing metal, and from about 0.0006 percent to about 20 percent by weight of copper ions provided by a suitable copper compound source. An electrical detonator comprising: an electrically insulated container; an explodable bridge wire positioned within said container and connected to a pair of electrically conductive wires which penetrate said container to provide a means of introducing an electrical charge into said bridge wire, and an explosive composition contained within said container comprising from about 25 percent to about 50 percent by weight of hexanitrostilbene, from about 40 percent to about 70 percent by weight of a perhalogenate oxidizing agent from about 1.5 percent to about 6 percent by weight of a sensitizing metal, and from about 0.0006 percent to about 20 percent by weight of copper ions.
