More particularly, this invention is directed to 2-(3-iodo-2-propynyloxy)-ethyl carbamates of the formula [Figure] (I) wherein R is hydrogen, linear or branched alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of from 4 to 8 carbon atoms, aryl, substituted aryl, aralkyl, or arylsulfonyl; R1 and R2, which may be the same or different, each are hydrogen, linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or cycloalkyl of from 5 to 7 carbon atoms, or R1 and R2, taken together, represent －(CH2)m－, in which m is an integer of from 4 to 6; and R3, R4, R5, and R6, which may be the same or different, each represent hydrogen, alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or aryl, or CCl3, or R3 and R5 or R4 and R6, taken together, represent －(CH2)n－, in which n is an integer of from 3 to 5, as well as a process for their preparation and their use as antimicrobial agents.
