In combination with a variable-speed thermal prime mover, a cooling system for supplying a coolant to the prime mover, main and auxiliary electric power generating means mechanically driven by the prime mover, a main load supplied with electric current from the main generating means, an auxiliary load comprising a plurality of variable-speed, motor driven fans and blowers for supplying cooling air to the cooling system, the generating means and the main load, respectively, the fan and blower driving motors being selectively connected for energization to the output of the auxiliary generating means, a controller, means including the controller for regulating the power output of the main generating means, and means including the controller for selecting and controlling the particular fan and blower motors to be energized as required for cooling the prime mover, the generating means and the main load, respectively, the improvement comprising: a. means for sensing the temperature of the coolant; and b. auxiliary load increasing means associated with the controller and connected to said temperature sensing means for automatically increasing the amount of electric power that the auxiliary generating means delivers to the fan and blower motors in response to the coolant temperature falling to a preset low level.
