A differential gear mechanism is provided of the type including a gear case (11) at least one input pinion gear (19) and a pair of output side gears (23) and (25). A clutch pack (35) is disposed between one of the side gears and the gear case and is operable, when engaged, to retard relative rotation between the gear case and the side gear.
