A single gas turbine may be made alternately useable as an auxiliary power unit, a load compressor, an air turbine starter, or an air turbine starter motor by placing a selectively operable clutch 38 between a centrifugal compressor 10 and a turbine wheel 30, by placing a valve 58 in ducting 48, 50, 52, 54 extending from the compressor 10 to a combustor 44, and by providing variable inlet vanes 24 at the inlet 20 to the compressor 10.
