A method of testing for the presence of three ligands in an aqueous liquid medium comprising the steps of: A. mixing a sample of the said medium with a reagent comprising a mixture of polymer latex particles collectively of three colors, the particles of the first of said three colors having attached thereto antibody selectively bindable to the first of said three ligands, the particles of the second of said three colors having attached thereto antibody selectively bindable to the second of said three ligands and the particles of the third of said three colors having attached therto antibody selectively bindable to the third of said three colors, whereby the presence of the first of said three ligands in the sample is indicated by the selective agglutination of the particles of the first of said three colors having attached thereto the antibody selectively bindable to the first of said three ligands, the presence of the second of said three ligands in the sample is indicated by the selective agglutination of the particles of the second of said three colors having attached thereto the antibody selectively bindable to the second of said three ligands and the presence of the third of said three ligands in the sample is indicated by the selective agglutination of the particles of the third of said three colors having attached thereto the antibody selectively bindable to the third of said three ligands; B. after an appropriate period of time, inspecting the mixture resulting from step A; and C. determining the presence of three ligands from the appearance of said mixture.
