A veterinary composition comprising 75-85% of an actively absorbed monosaccharide, from 3.5 to less than 5% of an actively absorbed naturally occurring amino acid, 5-10% of one or more citrate salts. The composition is useful in the treatment of diarrhoea in domestic animals such as calves.

A method of treating diarrhoea in domestic animals, which method comprises administering to the animal suffering from diarrhoea a therapeutically effective amount of the composition as defined in claim 1 dissolved in an aqueous medium. A method of treating hypoglycaemia associated with ovine or bovine ketosis, which method comprises administering to the animal suffering therefrom a therapeutically effective amount of the composition as defined in claim 1 dissolved in an aqueous medium.
