Free flowing powder compositions of reduced hazard level including calcium silicate, non-absorbing diluent powder such as calcium carbonate, and a solution of sodium perchlorate in water are also disclosed. Vinyl halide compositions especially those used for motor vehicle components having improved long term stability at moderate aging temperatures of about 180° F. to about 275° F., and processes for preparing such compositions, are also disclosed.

The composition of claim 1 wherein the ratio of sodium perchlorate to calcium silicate is approximately 1:5 to approximately 4:10 by weight. 3. A vinyl halide composition which comprises a polyvinyl chloride resin, and an effective amount of a primary heat stabilizer composition to provide processing stability at processing temperatures of about 300° F. to about 400° F., and an amount of from about 0.1 to about 10 weight percent to the weight of said polyvinyl chloride resin of a secondary heat stabilizer composition to provide long term stability at moderate aging temperatures of about 180° F. to about 275° F., said secondary stabilizer composition comprising sodium perchlorate hydrate and calcium silicate. 4. The vinyl halide composition of claim 3 wherein said primary heat stabilizer is selected from the group consisting of organotin stabilizers and metal salt stabilizers. 5. The vinyl halide composition of claim 4 wherein said organotin stabilizers comprise organotin mercaptides, organotin sulfides, organotin carboxylates and mixtures thereof. 6. The vinyl halide composition of claim 4 wherein said metal salt stabilizers comprise barium salts, cadmium salts, zinc salts and mixtures thereof. 7. The composition of claim 3 wherein said secondary stabilizer composition further comprises a non-absorbing diluent powder. 8. The composition of claim 7 wherein said diluent powder is selected from the group consisting of calcium carbonate, zeolites, silica, alumina, PVC resins, barium sulfate and mixtures thereof. 9. The composition of claim 8 wherein said secondary stabilizer composition comprises 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium silicate, 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and 10 to 30 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate. 10. The composition of claim 9 wherein the secondary stabilizer composition comprises 35 to 45 weight percent of calcium silicate, 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and 15 to 25 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate. 11. The composition of claim 10 wherein said secondary stabilizer composition comprises about 40 weight percent of calcium silicate, about 45 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and about 25 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate. 12. The composition of claim 10 wherein said secondary stabilizer composition comprises about 40 weight percent of calcium silicate, about 45 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and about 15 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate. 13. A shaped motor vehicle component having an improved stability at moderate temperatures comprised of a polyvinyl chloride resin composition, at least one heat stabilizer in a sufficient amount to impart heat processing stability during shaping, and a secondary stabilizer composition comprises sodium perchlorate hydrate and calcium silicate in an amount of from about 0.1 to about 10 weight percent to the weight of said polyvinyl chloride sufficient amount to provide, after shaping, stability at moderate temperatures not provided by any residual heat stabilizer. 14. The shaped motor vehicle component of claim 13 wherein said secondary stabilizer composition further comprises a non-absorbing diluent powder. 15. The shaped motor vehicle component of claim 14 wherein said diluent powder is selected from the group consisting of calcium carbonate, zeolites, silica, alumina, PVC resins, barium sulfate and mixtures thereof. 16. The shaped motor vehicle component of claim 16 wherein said secondary stabilizer composition comprises 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium silicate, 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and 10 to 30 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate. 17. The shaped motor vehicle component of claim 16 wherein said secondary stabilizer composition comprises 35 to 45 weight percent of calcium silicate, 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and 15 to 25 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate. 18. The shaped motor vehicle component of claim 17 wherein said secondary stabilizer composition comprises about 40 weight percent of calcium silicate, about 45 weight percent of calcium carbonate and about 25 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate. 19. The shaped motor vehicle component of claim 17 wherein said secondary stabilizer composition comprises about 40 weight percent of calcium silicate, about 45 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and about 15 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate. 20. A process for preparing a motor vehicle component having an improved stability at moderate temperatures which comprises forming a vinyl chloride resin composition at a heat processing temperature within the range from about 300° to 400° F. in the selected shape, incorporating within the composition at least one heat stabilizer in sufficient amount to impart processing stability during shaping and incorporating within such composition a sufficient amount of a secondary stabilizer composition comprising sodium perchlorate hydrate and calcium silicate to provide, after shaping, stability at moderate temperatures not provided by any residual heat stabilizer. 21. A free flowing powder perchlorate stabilizer composition of reduced hazard level comprising 10 to 30 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate sodium perchlorate, 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium silicate, and 30 to 50 weight percent of a non-absorbing inert diluent powder. 22. The stabilizer composition of claim 21 wherein said diluent is calcium carbonate. 23. The composition of claim 22 wherein the stabilizer composition comprises 35 to 45 weight percent of calcium silicate, 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and 15 to 25 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate. 24. The composition of claim 23 wherein said stabilizer composition comprises about 40 weight percent of calcium silicate, about 45 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and about 25 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate. 25. The composition of claim 23 wherein said stabilizer composition comprises about 40 weight percent of calcium silicate, about 45 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and about 15 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate.
