A floor structure having good resistance to the passage of water vapor and gases comprises a supporting structural substrate, a water-based adhesive layer coated on the structural substrate, a synthetic resin-metal foil laminate sheet in contact with the adhesive layer, a layer of water-based mastic applied to the resin-metal foil laminate, and a finish floor layer in contact with the mastic layer, or intermediate supporting layer(s) adhered to the mastic layer, with a finish floor layer secured to the supporting layer.

A floor structure consisting essentially of, a supporting structural substrate, a water-based adhesive layer coated on said structural substrate, a synthetic resin-metal foil laminate sheet in contact with said adhesive layer, said laminate sheet being substantially impervious to moisture and gas, a layer of water-based mastic applied to said resin-metal foil laminate, and a finish floor layer in contact with said mastic layer.
