A capacitor discharge ignition system (10) for an internal combustion engine has an ignition coil (22) with a magnetically permeable core (24) having an axially extending core bar (26), a primary winding (30) wound around the core bar, and a pair of secondary windings (32 and 34) axially spaced along the primary winding.
