A cover unit for an industrial food mixer includes two clamshell-like covers that are hingeably mounted at the proximal ends thereof on the mixer to move in a plane that is parallel to the plane containing the top rim of the bowl in which mixing is being carried out. A splash rib is dependently mounted on each cover as is a splash edge.
