Thus, effects of the retinol or retinyl esters in combination with these cyclic compounds are analogous to treatment with retinoic acid.

[ What is claimed is:] [1.] A skin Care composition comprising:(a) from about 0.001% to about 10% of retinol;(b) from about 0.0001% to about 50% of a cyclic aliphatic unsaturated compound selected from the group consisting of alpha damascone, beta damascone, delta damascone, isodamascone, damascenone, alpha ionone, beta ionone, allyl alpha ionone, isobutyl ionone, alpha methyl ionone, gamma methyl ionone, brahmanol, sandanol, alpha terpineol, lyral, ethyl saffranate, and mixtures thereof; where in the cyclic aliphatic unsaturated compound at 100 .mu.M concentration inhibits at least 20% of LRAT or ARAT catalyzed retinol esterification as measured by an in vitro microsomal assay, and(c) a cosmetically acceptable vehicle.
