A wing assembly has a wing and at least one slender delta shaped flap with sharp leading edges pointing into the flow direction and deployable above the upper wing surface close to the quarter line of the wing for providing significantly enhanced lift and maneuverability to an aircraft. In normal flight the delta flaps are retracted into the wing such that the upper surface of the delta flaps become part of the upper surface of the wing.
