Methods for cancer chemosensitization are provided. Texaphyrins are new chemosensitizers for enhancing the cytotoxicity of chemotherapeutic agents. The enhancement appears to be P-glycoprotein-independent since texaphyrins are effective in both a P-glycoprotein-expressing and a P-glycoprotein -nonex
