A fire protection material is provided for protecting electrical cables and components. The material comprises an endothermic-reactive insulating fibrous material including an inorganic endothermic filler which undergoes multiple endothermic reactions between the range 100.degree. C. and 750.degree. C.; inorganic fiber material; and an organic polymer binder. The weight ratio of endothermic filler to inorganic fiber is preferably in the range of 0.25 to 3.0. C. and 750.degree. C. wherein the endothermic inorganic compound has a particle top size greater than 150 .mu.m;(b) inorganic fiber material; and,(c) an inorganic polymer binder.
