Apparatus for the purification of exhaust gases from internal combustion engines is disclosed including a conduit for connecting the exhaust pipe from the engine with a canister containing an adsorbent for at least one of the components of the exhaust gases, and a valve associated with the conduit for selectively directing the exhaust gases from the exhaust pipe to the canister when the valve is open.
