A device for restricting leakage from an external orifice of a patient's urethra, which device comprises:a body-contacting first surface, and an opposing second surface situated about an aperture, which first surface is attachable to an external surface of the patient with said aperture positioned over the orifice of the urethra so that the device may be associated with the patient without any structure projecting into the urethra of the patient, and a second member integral with said second surface, which second member comprises a valve mounted over said aperture, which valve has a closed position which prevents leakage of fluid through the device and an open position which allows fluid from the orifice of the urethra to flow through said aperture when desired, the closed and open positions being achievable without removing the device from the body of the patient.
