A method for operating a transmission according to claim 5 comprising: providing a plurality of pairs of helical cut drive gears mounted on said drive shaft for rotation by said drive shaft; providing a plurality of pairs of helical cut driven gears mounted on said second idler shaft for rotating said second idler shaft upon selective engagement of one of said pairs of helical cut driven gears mounted on said second idler shaft with a respective one of said plurality of pairs of helical cut drive gears mounted on said drive shaft, each of said pairs of helical cut driven gears being further mounted for axial direction movement on said second idler shaft. 7. A method for operating a transmission according to claim 4 comprising: providing a plurality of idler shafts parallel to said drive shaft; providing at least one pair of helical cut driven gears mounted on each idler shaft for rotating a respective idler shaft upon selective engagement with said first pair of helical cut drive gears mounted on said drive shaft, each idler shaft having an axial direction, each of said at least one pair of helical cut driven gears being further mounted on its respective idler shaft for axial direction movement on its respective idler shaft. 8. A method for manufacturing a transmission comprising: providing a drive shaft and mounting a first pair of helical cut drive gears on said drive shaft for rotation of said first pair of helical cut drive gears by said drive shaft; providing a first idler shaft parallel to said drive shaft; mounting a first pair of helical cut driven gears on said first idler shaft for rotating said first idler shaft upon selective engagement with said first pair of helical cut drive gears, said first idler shaft having an axial direction; further mounting said first pair of helical cut driven gears on said first idler shaft for axial direction movement on said first idler shaft; providing said helical cut on said first pair of helical cut drive gears and providing said helical cut on said first pair of helical cut driven gears mounted on said first idler shaft wher
