An applicator is provided for dispensing a first and a second protein solution to form a biological adhesive where the solutions can be deflected by a deflection assembly during dispensing for the adhesive to cover a broad or limited area. The applicator includes a housing having a housing head for enclosing therein a first reservoir containing a first component, and a second reservoir containing a second component. The first and second components are preferably fibrinogen and thrombin which intermix with water to form the first and second protein solutions, respectively. The housing further includes an elongated body portion defining a longitudinal axis for enclosing therein a conduit assembly having a first and a second conduit in communication with the first and second reservoir, respectively. The solutions intermix on an application site to form a fibrin sealant. In an alternate embodiment, the applicator includes two valves. A first valve opens and closes the proximal ends of two conduit assemblies for introducing water or other substance to the reservoirs. A second valve opens and closes the distal ends of the two conduit assemblies to permit and prevent the dispensing of the protein solutions.

An irrigation-aspiration apparatus for supplying an irrigation fluid to a subject part under operation and aspirating the supplied irrigation fluid and tissue removed from the subject part, the apparatus comprising: an aspiration tube through which the supplied fluid and the removed tissue is aspirated and disposed of; a peristaltic aspiration pump having a rotating support provided with a plurality of rollers that rotatingly travel about a rotational axis of the rotating support to compress and occlude the aspiration tube to thereby generate a vacuum pressure in the aspiration tube; and control means for controlling rotation of the rotating support so that a rotational speed of the rotating support is increased and decreased at predetermined intervals during one rotation of the rotating support. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the control means controls the rotation of the rotating support so that the rotational speed is increased during a first status lasting from a condition in which one of the rollers first starts occluding the aspiration tube to a condition in which the one roller occludes the aspiration tube substantially completely, and the rotational speed is decreased during a second status lasting from the condition in which the one roller occludes the aspiration tube substantially completely to a condition in which a subsequent one of the rollers starts occluding the aspiration tube. 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the control means controls the rotation of the rotating support so that the rotational speed presents a substantially square wave form. 4. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the control means controls the rotation of the rotating support so that the rotational speed presents a substantially sinusoidal form. 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the rollers are arranged equidistantly from the rotational axis, and rotatingly travel about the rotational axis. 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the control means controls the rotation of the rotating support in conformity with variations in vacuum pressure or quantity of aspiration flow. 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the control means controls the rotation of the rotating support so that, if the vacuum pressure or the quantity of the aspiration flow is varied to be smaller, the rotational speed is larger, and if the vacuum pressure or the quantity of the aspiration flow is varied to be larger, the rotational speed is smaller. 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the control means controls the rotation of the rotating support so that, if the vacuum pressure or the quantity of the aspiration flow is minimal, the rotational speed is the largest, and if the vacuum pressure or the quantity of the aspiration flow is maximum, the rotational speed is the smallest. 9. An irrigation-aspiration apparatus for supplying an irrigation fluid to a subject part under operation and aspirating the supplied irrigation fluid and tissue removed from the subject part, the apparatus comprising: an aspiration tube through which the supplied irrigation fluid and the removed tissue is aspirated and disposed of; a peristaltic aspiration pump having a plurality of rollers that rotatingly travel to compress and occlude the aspiration tube to thereby generate a vacuum pressure in the aspiration tube; and control means for driving and controlling the peristaltic aspiration pump to vary a travelling speed of the roller in accordance with a travelling rotation angle of the roller. 10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the control means drives and controls the peristaltic aspiration pump so that the travelling speed is increased once and decreased once when one of the rollers travels by a predetermined amount of the travelling rotation angle. 11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the predetermined amount of the travelling rotation angle is determined depending on the number of the rollers provided in the peristaltic aspiration pump. 12. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the control means drives and controls the peristaltic aspiration pump so that the travelling speed presents a substantially square wave form. 13. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the control means drives and controls the peristaltic aspiration pump so that the travelling speed presents a substantially sinusoidal form. 14. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the rollers are arranged equidistantly from a rotational axis, and rotatingly travel about the rotational axis. 15. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the peristaltic aspiration pump has a rotating support provided with the rollers that rotatingly travel about a rotational axis of the rotating support, and the control means controls rotation of the rotating support so that a rotational speed of the rotating support is varied in accordance with the rotation angle of the rotating support. rrel is located proximate said proximal end of said housing, and an extended position, in which said distal end of said barrel is located proximate said distal end of said housing; a needle assembly attached to said barrel at said distal end thereof, said needle assembly having a needle attached thereto; a ring mounted to said barrel about said distal end thereof, said ring being rotatable relative to said housing and to said barrel and including a first tab and a second tab circumferentially spaced from said first tab; and urging means for urging said barrel toward its said retracted position, the improvement wherein said housing has an interior wall which includes a first raised segment having a first open area and a second open area circumferentially spaced from said first open area, said first raised segment having a first ramp which protrudes into said first open area and which is sized and shaped so as to allow said first tab to slide therealong, said first open area including a second raised segment having a second ramp, which protrudes into said first open area and which is sized and shaped so as to allow said first tab to slide therealong, and a first stop, which protrudes into said first open area and which is positioned adjacent said second ramp, said second raised segment being sized and shaped so as to form a first groove on one side thereof and a second groove on an opposite side thereof, said first groove extending from said proximal end of said housing to said distal end of said housing and being sized and shaped so as to slidably receive said first tab, said second groove extending from said proximal end of said housing to said distal end of said housing and being sized and shaped so as to slidably receive said first tab, said second open area extending from said proximal end of said housing to said distal end of said housing and being sized and shaped so as to slidably receive said second tab, said first raised segment having a third ramp, which protrudes into said second open area and which is sized and shaped so as to allow said second tab to slide therealong, a fourth ramp, which protrudes into said second open area and which is sized and shaped so as to allow said second tab to slide therealong, a second stop, which protrudes into said second open area and which is positioned adjacent said fourth ramp, and locking means, positioned so as to be engageable by said first tab, for locking said barrel in its said retracted position such that said needle is concealed in said housing. 2.
