A process is described which imparts exceptional antisoiling, anti-staining and repellent properties to carpets. The process makes use of a water-based exhaustion process wherein the water-based treating solution contains (1) glassy fluorochemical material, glassy hydrocarbon material, or combinations thereof; (2) a stainblocking material; (3) a polyvalent metal salt, acid, or combinations thereof; and (4) water. Subsequent to exhaustion, the wet treated carpet is heated, usually in a steaming step, rinsed, and dried in a dry heat oven.

The material of claim 2, wherein said alcohol has 12 to 24 carbon atoms. 4. The material of claim 2, wherein said alcohol is stearyl alcohol. 5. The material of claim 2, wherein said alcohol has 12 carbon atoms. 6. The material of claim 2, wherein said alcohol has 14 carbon atoms. 7. The material of claim 2, wherein said alcohol has 16 carbon atoms. 8. The material of claim 2, wherein said alcohol is a straight chain alcohol. 9. The material of claim 2, wherein the material is formed by reacting said biuret isocyanate trimer with about 3 moles equivalent of said alcohol. 10. The material of claim 2, wherein the material is formed by reacting said biuret isocyanate trimer with greater than 3 moles equivalent of said alcohol. 11. The material of claim 2, wherein said material is non-cationic. 12. The material of claim 2, wherein said material has a receding contact angle to n-hexadecane of at least about 35°. 13. The material of claim 2, wherein said material has a glass transition temperature within the range of about 20° C. to about 130° C. 14. The material of claim 2, in combination with a fibrous substrate. 15. The material of claim 14, wherein said fibrous substrate is carpeting. 16. The material of claim 1, wherein the material is formed by reacting said biuret isocyanate trimer with greater than 3 moles equivalent of said alcohol. 17. The material of claim 1, wherein said material is non-cationic. 18. The material of claim 1, wherein said alcohol has 12 to 24 carbon atoms. 19. The material of claim 1, wherein said alcohol is stearyl alcohol. 20. The material of claim 1, wherein said alcohol is a straight chain alcohol.
