A process is provided for preparing a mixture of (1) a copolymer of a polyalkene and an unsaturated acidic reagent and (2) a polyalkenyl derivative of an unsaturated acidic reagent, said process comprising (a) copolymerizing (1) a polyalkene containing alkylvinylidene isomer and non-alkylvinylidene isomers and (2) an unsaturated acidic reagent under polymerization conditions in the presence of a free radical initiator; and (b) reacting the product of step (a) with an unsaturated acidic reagent at elevated temperature in the presence of a strong acid. The product of the process can be used to make polysuccinimides that are useful in lubricating oil compositions.

A process is provided for preparing a mixture of (1) a copolymer of a polyalkene and an unsaturated acidic reagent and (2) a polyalkenyl derivative of an unsaturated acidic reagent, said process comprising (a) copolymerizing (1) a polyalkene containing alkylvinylidene isomer and non-alkylvinylidene isomers and (2) an unsaturated acidic reagent under polymerization conditions in the presence of a free radical initiator; and (b) reacting the product of step (a) with an unsaturated acidic reagent at elevated temperature in the presence of a strong acid. The product of the process can be used to make polysuccinimides that are useful in lubricating oil compositions. aralkylalkoxy, or alkoxyalkylheterocycle; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or prodrug thereof. 2. The compound according to claim 1 depicted by formula II: wherein the X of formula (I) is OR4,and R4is a group selected from aryl, aralkyl, alkyaryl, alkylheterocyclic, or alkylarylheterocyclic; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 3. The compound according to claim 1 wherein X is the group 2-Phenyl-4-oxazolylethoxy, R1and R2are hydrogen and R3is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, and alkylaryl. 4. A compound selected from the group consisting of: N-[4-(2-(Phenyloxazol-4yl)ethoxy)phenyl]-N-isopropyl sulfonylglycine represented by the formula:
