A naphthopyran compound represented by the following graphic formula: wherein, (a) each R1and each R2are C1-C6alkyl, C1-C6alkoxy, chloro, or fluoro, and m and n are each the integers 0, 1 or 2; (b) Ar is selected from the group consisting of phenyl, naphthyl, thienyl, benzothienyl, furanyl, benzofuranyl and pyridyl; and (c) B and B' are each selected from the group consisting of: (i) the unsubstituted, mono-, di-, and tri-substituted aryl groups, phenyl and naphthyl, said aryl substituents being selected from the group consisting of di(C1-C6)alkylamino, piperidino, morpholino, pyrryl, C1-C6alkyl, C1-C6chloroalkyl, C1-C6fluoroalkyl, C1-C6alkoxy, mono(C1-C6)alkoxy(C1-C4)alkyl, acryloxy, methacryloxy, chloro and fluoro; and (ii) the groups represented by the following graphic formulae: wherein A is carbon or oxygen and D is oxygen or substituted nitrogen, provided that when D is substituted nitrogen, A is carbon, said nitrogen substituents being selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C6alkyl, and C2-C6acyl; each R3is C1-C6alkyl, C1-C6alkoxy, hydroxy, chloro or fluoro; R4and R5are each hydrogen or C1-C6alkyl; and p is the integer 0, 1, or 2. 2. The naphthopyran of claim 1 wherein, (a) each R1and each R2are C1-C3alkyl, C1-C3alkoxy, or fluoro; (b) Ar is phenyl or naphthyl; and (c) B and B' are each selected from the group consisting of: (i) phenyl, mono-substituted phenyl, and di-substituted phenyl, said phenyl substituents being selected from the group consisting of di(C1-C3)alkylamino, piperidino, morpholino, pyrryl, C1-C3alkyl, C1-C3chloroalkyl, C1-C3fluoroalkyl, C1-C3alkoxy, mono(C1-C3)alkoxy(C1-C3)alkyl, fluoro and chloro; and (ii) the groups represented by the following graphic formulae: wherein A is carbon and D is oxygen, R3is C1-C3alkyl or C1-C3alkoxy, R4and R5are each hydrogen or C1-C4alkyl; and p is the integer 0 or 1. 3. The naphthopyran compound of claim 2 wherein R1and R2are each C1-C3alkyl or C1-C3alkoxy, and m and n are each the integers 0 or 1; and B and B' are each selected from the group consisting of phenyl, mono-, and di-substituted phenyl, each of said phenyl substituents being selected from the group consisting of C1-C3alkyl, C1-C3alkoxy and fluoro; and the group represented by the following graphic formula: wherein A is carbon and D is oxygen, R3is C1-C3alkyl or C1-C3alkoxy, R4and R5are each hydrogen or C1-C3alkyl, and p is the integer 0 or 1. 4. A naphthopyran compound selected from the group consisting of: (a) 6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-8,9-dimethoxy-3,3-diphenyl-3H-naphtho[2,1-b]pyran;
