A transmission housing having a modulatable power transmission therein which includes a clutch having interleaved clutch plates and having a central power transmitting shaft extending axially through the clutch. The clutch includes a fluid operated movable piston for effecting clutch operation by compression of the plates. The piston has a smaller piston area and a larger piston area, the smaller piston area has fluid flow directed to it at a variable fluid pressure whereby the clutch is modulatable. The larger piston area is adapted to have fluid flow directed thereto to effect maximum and unmodulatable engagement of the clutch. A spring loaded normally closed trigger valve controls fluid flow to the larger piston area in response to fluid pressure above a predetermined amount at the smaller piston area. The trigger valve is mounted on the outside of the transmission housing and is readily accessible for adjustment, for example. The trigger valve is normally closed so that pressure fluid is directed to the smaller piston area at a variable fluid pressure whereby the clutch is modulatable. When the valve is open by fluid pressure over a predetermined amount, the valve permits fluid flow to the larger piston area to effect maximum and unmodulatable engagement of the clutch for full clutch capacity.

A transmission housing having a modulatable power transmission therein which includes a clutch having interleaved clutch plates and having a central power transmitting shaft extending axially through the clutch. The clutch includes a fluid operated movable piston for effecting clutch operation by compression of the plates. The piston has a smaller piston area and a larger piston area, the smaller piston area has fluid flow directed to it at a variable fluid pressure whereby the clutch is modulatable. The larger piston area is adapted to have fluid flow directed thereto to effect maximum and unmodulatable engagement of the clutch. The method according to claim 1, further comprising: determining a number of recharging operations within a combustion cycle as a function of an operating parameter of an internal combustion engine. 6. The method according to claim 1, further comprising: performing an ionic current measurement during an ignition spark pause; determining a parameter from the ionic current measurement; and depending on the determined parameter, selecting a starting time of the recharging operation of the ignition energy storage device. 7. The method according to claim 1, wherein: a trigger value for the ignition spark current is variable as a function of at least one operating parameter. 8. The method according to claim 7, wherein: the at least one operating parameter includes at least one of a rotational speed of an internal combustion engine and a load of the internal combustion engine. 9. A high-voltage ignition device for generating a spark sequence, comprising: an ignition energy storage device; a switching element for the ignition energy storage device, the switching element connecting a power supply device to and disconnecting the power supply from the ignition energy storage device; a control unit for triggering the switching element; and a determination device for a charge state of the ignition energy storage device, wherein: the control unit recloses the switching element when the charge state of the ignition energy storage device drops below a specifiable value, the switching element is reopened when a specifiable charge state is reached again, and the determination device includes a current measuring device for a spark current. 10. The high-voltage ignition device according to claim 9, wherein: the ignition energy storage device includes an inductor. 11. The high-voltage ignition device according to claim 9, wherein: the control unit includes the determination device. 12. The high-voltage ignition device according to claim 9, wherein: the switching element includes a semiconductor switching element. 13. The high-voltage ignition device according to claim 12, further comprising: a substrate on which the semiconductor switching element and the control unit are situated. 14. A device for controlling selective cylinder filling in a combustion engine having a variable valve drive, the device comprising: an actuator coupled to the variable valve drive for adjusting at least one of a valve stroke and closing and opening times of cylinder intake valves; at least one sensor providing an input magnitude based upon which a conclusion can be made as to a filling of each cylinder; a control device receiving the input magnitude as an input, said control device determining a control signal that is output to the actuator based on the input magnitude, said control signal causing the actuator to adjust the variable valve drive to balance out any different filling levels of the cylinders. 9. The device according to claim 8, wherein said sensor is at least one of an rpm sensor, a torque sensor, a lambda probe, and valve stroke sensors. 10. The device according to claim 8, wherein said control device receives as the input magnitude an rpm signal, and wherein the filling level is adjusted only when the rpm signal is in an idling rpm range. 11. The device according to claim 9, wherein said control device receives as the input magnitude an rpm signal, and wherein the filling level is adjusted only when the rpm signal is in an idling rpm range. 12. A computer product, comprising a computer readable medium having stored thereon program code segments that: receive an input magnitude value for an engine of a vehicle having a variable valve drive; predict filling differences of cylinders of the engine based upon the input magnitude; calculate a control signal for adjusting the variable valve drive to balance out any different filling levels of the cylinders.
