A cashierless shopping store includes a plurality of shopping carts into which selected items to be purchased are placed by shoppers. Each of the shopping carts includes a weight detector to measure the weight of items placed therein and a transmitter to transmit the measured weights over a wireless communications link. A portable wireless shopping terminal accompanies each of the shopping carts. Each shopping terminal reads item price and item weight data from each selected item to be purchased and receives the measured weight of each selected item transmitted over the wireless communication link by the transmitter. The shopping terminal compares the read item weight data with the transmitted measured weight to determine if the read item weight data and the transmitted measured weight for each selected item correlate. At least one checkout station is provided and includes a scale to measure the total weight of selected items in a shopping cart and a transmitter to transmit the measured total weight over the wireless communications link to the shopping terminal accompanying that shopping cart. The shopping terminal compares the measured total weight with the sum of the read item weight data to determine if the weights correlate.

The monitoring system according to claim 1, wherein the sensor unit is directly attached to a fastener including one of a bolt and a nut attached to the object to be monitored.4. A monitoring system for monitoring at least one object exhibiting a physically measurable characteristic, comprising: a sensor unit for detecting the at least one object and including:at least one sensor,a first processing device in communication with the at least one sensor and for producing information based on a detection operation performed by the at least one sensor,a first communication device for transmitting the information produced by the first processing device, and a connection for accepting a power supply; anda data collecting device for collecting the information produced by the first processing device and including:a second communication device for receiving the information produced by the first processing device,a second processing device,a memory for storing the information produced by the first processing device, anda third communication device for transmitting the information produced by the first processing device to a third processing device, wherein the first communication device draws from the power supply an energy for performing a transmission of the information produced by the first processing device after the first communication device receives an activation command.5. The monitoring system according to claim 4, wherein:the first communication device includes a communication module for performing a wireless communication in order to transmit and receive a signal between the sensor unit and the data collecting device,the at least one object corresponds to one of a valve, a steam trap, and equipment with rotary machines in a plant, the at least one object including an interior for allowing a fluid to pass therethrough,the sensor unit is mounted with respect to the at least one object in accordance with one of a direct mounting on the at least one object and a mounting in a vicinity of the at least one object,the at least one sensor includes a plurality of sensors, the plurality of sensors and the communication module being arranged according to a divided form,the plurality of sensors are directly attached to the at least one object, andthe communication module is mounted away from the plurality of sensors in a vicinity of the objec
