A wireless interface device adapted to establish a communication link with one of a plurality of remote host computers, each remote host computer have a CPU for running one or more programs, a storage device for storing said one or more programs and a display device for displaying images generated by said one or more programs, the wireless interface device comprising:a display unit;an input subsystem having a pen mode and a mouse mode and including means for monitoring pen down events of a passive stylus and emulating the movement of a mouse and the clicking of a mouse button in said mouse mode;a communication system, said communication system including means for broadcasting signals to ascertain remote host computers a vailable for connection, and means for receiving signals from said remote host computers indicating the node addresses of said remote host computers that are available for connection, and means for enabling a user to select one of said plurality of remote host computers available for connection to establish a wireless connection with the selected remote host computer in response thereto;means for wirelessly communicating and interfacing with said selected remote host computer as a remote input/output device, said communicating and interfacing means further adapted to access by way of a remote link said selected remote host computer and said programs on said selected remote host computer to enable said wireless interface device to execute and control operation of said remote host computer and said programs on said remote host computer; andmeans for enabling said wireless interface device to display one or more images on said display unit. 2. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 1, wherein said remote link is a radio link. 3. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 1, wherein said enabling means includes means for receiving a touch screen input. 4. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 3, wherein said receiving means is configured to be responsive to a passive stylus. 5. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 4, wherein said receiving means includes means for operating in first and second modes. 6. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 5, wherein said first mode is a mouse mode. 7. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 5, wherein said second mode is a pen mode. 8. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 3, wherein said enabling means is configured to display a virtual touch screen, said virtual touch screen operable to receive inputs for controlling said host computer. 9. A wireless interface device adapted to establish a communication link with one of a plurality of remote host computers available for connection, each remote host computer having a CPU, a storage device for running and storing one or more programs and a display device for displaying images output by said programs, the wireless interface device comprising:a display unit;an input subsystem having a pen mode and a mouse mode and including means for monitoring pen down events of a passive stylus and emulating the movement of a mouse and the clicking of a mouse button in said mouse mode;a communication system, said communication system including means for broadcasting signals to ascertain remote host computers available for connection, means for receiving signals from said remote host computers indicating the node addresses of said remote host computers are available for connection, and means for enabling a user to select one of a plurality of remote host computers available for connection and establishing a wireless connection with the selected remote host computer in response thereto;a transceiver configured to communicate with said selected remote host computer by way of a communication link for accessing said selected remote host computer as a remote input/output device and executing and controlling said selected remote host computer and said programs on said selected remote hos t computer; anda viewer manager configured to enable said wireless interface device to display images on said display unit identical to images being displayed on said selected remote host computer display device and to display locally generated images. 10. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 9, wherein said remote link is a radio link. 11. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 9, wherein said viewer manager is configured to enable said wireless terminal to receive a touch screen input. 12. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 11, wherein said viewer manager is configured to be responsive to a passive stylus. 13. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 12, wherein said viewer manager is configured to operate in first and second modes. 14. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 13, wherein said first mode is a mouse mode. 15. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 13, wherein said second mode is a pen mode. 16. A wireless interface device as recited in claim 9, wherein said viewer manager is configured to display a virtual touch screen, said virtual touch screen operable to receive inputs for controlling said host computer. 17. A method for allowing a wireless interface device to establish a communication link with a selected one of a plurality of remote host computers, each remote host computer having a display device for displaying images, the method comprising:broadcasting signals to ascertain remote host computers available for connection;receiving signals from said remote host computers indicating said remote host computers available for connection;enabling a user to select one of a plurality of remote host computers available for connection and establishing a wireless connection with the selected remote host computer in response thereto;providing said wireless interface device with an input subsystem configured to operate in a pen mode and a mouse mode, wherein in said mouse mode, said input subsystem monitors pen down events of a passive stylus and emulates the movement of a mouse and the clicking of a mouse button;enabling said wireless interface device to take control and access said selected remote host computer as a remote input/output device; andenabling said wireless interface device to control said selected remote host computer.
