In another embodiment, an orientation structure that-prevents insertion of a data cartridge into the box-like holder if the cartridge is improperly oriented. Retention clips for preventing accidental dislodgement of a data cartridge located in the box-like structure are present in yet another embodiment.

A data cartridge holder comprising:a box-like structure that has an interior space or accommodating a plurality of data cartridges;wherein said box-like structure includes a bottom wall and a side wait extending from said bottom wall to a side wall terminal edge;wherein said bottom wall and said side wall define said interior space;wherein said side wall terminal edge defines an opening for inserting/extracting data cartridges into/from said interior space;wherein said box-like structure includes partitioning means for dividing said interior space into a plurality of slots;a dust cover;a coupler operable to secure said dust cover to said box-like structure so that said dust cover does not impede the insertion/extraction of data cartridges into/from said interior space when the data cartridge holder is in a state in which a data cartridge may be inserted/extracted into/from said box-like structure;a cantilever member associated with each slot for use in retaining a data cartridge in said slot;wherein said cantilever member extends from a first terminal end to a second terminal end; wherein said first terminal end is operatively attached to said side wall;wherein said second terminal end is located further from said opening than said first terminal end and moves is capable of moving in response to the insertion/extraction of a data cartridge into/from a slot; andan engagement structure operable to open a door of a data cartridge that is incorrectly oriented for insertion into the data cartridge holder and thereby inhibit insertion of the data cartridge into the data cartridge holder. 2. A removable data cartridge holder for use in a data cartridge library system comprising:a box-like structure that has an interior space or accommodating a plurality of data cartridges;wherein said box-like structure includes a bottom wall with an interior bottom surface and exterior bottom surface;wherein said box-like structure includes a side wall that is operatively attached to said bottom wall, extends from said bottom wall to a side wall terminal edge, and has an interior side surface, and an exterior side surface;wherein said interior bottom surface and said interior side surface define said interior space;wherein said side wall terminal edge defines an opening for the insertion/extraction of data cartridges into/from said interior space;a dust cover for placing over said interior space when the removable data cartridge holder is not in a state in which a data cartridge may be inserted/extracted into/from said box-like structure;wherein said dust cover has a dust cover interior surface;wherein said dust cover has a dust cover exterior surface;wherein said dust cover has a dust cover terminal edge;a connector for attaching/detaching said box-like structure to/from a data cartridge library system;a coupler for attaching said dust cover to said box-like structure such that said dust cover does not interfere with inserting/extracting data cartridges into/from said box-like structure when said box-like structure is in a state in which a data cartridge may be inserted/extracted into/from said box-like structure. 3. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 2, wherein:said dust cover has a dust cover top wall and a dust cover side wall that extends from said dust cover top wall to said dust cover terminal edge;wherein said dust cover has a generally U-shaped cross section. 4. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 3, wherein:said dust cover dimensioned so that said box-like structure can be nested within said dust cover when it is desired to insert/extract data cartridges into/from said box-like structure. 5. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 4, wherein:said coupler extends between said dust cover interior surface and said exterior side surface of said box-like structure. 6. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 4, wherein:said coupler includes a first portion that is operative ly attached to said box-like structure and a second portion that is operatively attached to said dust cover. 7. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 4, wherein:at least a portion of said coupler is located on said exterior side surface of said box-like structure at a location that is substantially midway between said bottom exterior surface of said box-like structure and, if a data cartridge was operatively positioned in said box-like structure, the surface of the data cartridge that is furthest from said bottom wall of said box-like structure. 8. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 2, wherein:said connector is operatively attached to said exterior side wall of said box-like structure. 9. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 8, wherein:said connector is located so that a portion of said exterior side wall of said box-like structure is located between said side wall terminal edge and said connector. 10. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 8, wherein:said connector extends laterally outward from said exterior side wall so that at least a portion of said connector extends laterally beyond said dust cover exterior surface when said box-like structure is nested within said dust cover. 11. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 10, wherein:said connector includes a latch structure that extends laterally beyond said dust cover exterior surface when said box-like structure is nested within said dust cover;wherein said latch structure cooperates with a mating latch structure associated with the data cartridge library system to fix the data cartridge holder in place within the data cartridge library system. 12. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 8, wherein:said connector includes a reference structure for use in properly orienting the data cartridge holder in a data cartridge library. 13. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 12, wherein:said reference structure includes a plurality of substantially flat surfaces that are adapted to cooperate with a library reference surface associated with the data cartridge library system to orient the data cartridge holder in a first dimension within the system. 14. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 12, wherein:said reference structure includes a round hole and an oblong hole that when the data cartridge holder is in use, cooperate with library reference pins that are associated with the data cartridge library system to orient the data cartridge holder in a first dimension and a second dimension that is different than said first dimension. 15. A removable data cartridge holder, as claimed in claim 2, further comprising:one or more data cartridges located within said box-like structure.
