Rotation of a main shaft by the physician causes the staples to be fired and the blade to be moved along a pre determined path to cut the stapled tissue. Tactile and audible feedback is given to the physician when the stapling phase is complete and the cutting phase is to begin.

An FTRD comprising:a fixed housing;a removable cartridge body complementary to the fixed housing when in an attached configuration, the removable cartridge body including a plurality of staple receiving slits in a distal end thereof and including a blade movably mounted therein for motion along a cutting path;a plurality of first staple drivers slidable within the removable cartridge body, each of the first staple drivers having a staple end adjacent to a corresponding one of the staple receiving slits and a driven end;an actuator disposed in the fixed housing, the actuator moving th first staple drivers into the corresponding staple receiving slits to push staples received therein against an anvil portion of the FTRD when in the attached configuration and for moving the blade along the cutting path when a stapling operation has been completed; anda plurality of second staple drivers movably disposed in the fixed housing, each of the second staple drivers having a cam end and a driving end connecting to the driven end of a corresponding one of the first staple drivers when in the attached configuration. 2. The FTRD according to claim 1, wherein the blade further comprises a guide portion to control movement of the blade relative to the removable cartridge body. 3. The FTRD according to claim 2, wherein the guide portion is a shaped protrusion adapted to cooperate with a corresponding indentation in the removable cartridge body. 4. The FTRD according to claim 3, wherein the shaped protrusion is one of a ball joint, a barb and a dimple. 5. The FTRD according to claim 1, wherein the driven end of each of the first staple drivers abuts the driving end of the corresponding one of the second staple drivers when in the attached configuration. 6. The FTRD according to claim 5, wherein one of the driven end and the driving end is concave, and the other is correspondingly convex. 7. The FTRD according to claim 1, further comprising a drive cam movable relative to the cartridge body by the actuator, the drive cam having a sloped surface adapted to sequentially move successive first staple drivers into corresponding staple receiving slits to push staples received therein against the anvil portion of the FTRD. 8. The FTRD according to claim 7, further comprising a plurality of second staple drivers movably disposed in the fixed housing, each of the second staple drivers having a cam end and a driving end connecting to the driven end of a corresponding one of the first staple drivers when in the attached configuration, wherein the drive cam squentially engages driven ends of the second staple drivers to sequentially drive the first s aple drivers. 9. The FTRD according to claim 8, wherein the rive cam has a frangible portion adapted to break when the drive cam contacts a breaking element of the FTRD. 10. The FTRD according to claim 9, wherein the breaking element contacts the drive cam after all of the first staple drivers have been driven into their corresponding staple receiving slits to engage the actuator and the blade. 11. The FTRD according to claim 7, wherein the drive cam is movable along a track formed in the fixed housing. 12. The FTRD according to claim 1, wherein the actuator is a rotating actuator. 13. The FTRD according to claim 1, wherein the actuator is a hand-operated actuator operated from a proximal end of the FTRD. 14. An FTRD comprising:a fixed housing;a removable cartridge body complementary to the fixed housing when in an attached configuration, the removable cartridge body containing a plurality of staple receiving slits and a tissue cutting blade;a plurality of first staple drivers slidable within the removable cartridge body, each of the first staple drivers having a staple end adjacent to a corresponding one of the staple receiving slits and a driven end;a rotating actuator disposed in the fixed housing, the actuator moving the first staple drivers into the staple receiving slits to drive staples received ther ein against an anvil portion of the FTRD when in the attached configuration; anda cam surface adjacent the rotating actuator and a plunger extending from an axis of the rotating actuator, the plunger moving radially relative to the axis between a staple driving position and a tissue cutting position in response to angular movement of the plunger along the cam surface. 15. The FTRD according to claim 14, further comprising a frangible portion of the drive cam adapted to break when the plunger moves from the staple driving position to the tissue cutting position. 16. The FTRD according to claim 15, wherein the plunger is in a first one of the staple driving and tissue cutting positions during substantially half of an actuating stroke of the rotating actuator, and in a second one of the staple driving and tissue cutting positions during substantially another half of the actuating stroke. 17. A removable staple cartridge for an FTRD comprising:a cartridge body complementary to and removably attachable to housing of the FTRD, the cartridge body defining staple containing cavities therein; anda plurality of first staple drivers slidably retained in the cartridge body, each of the first staple drivers having a staple end which, when the first staple driver is moved from a storage position to a staple firing position, extends into a corresponding one of the staple containing cavities to propel a corresponding one of the staples received therein out of the cartridge body; anda plurality of second staple drivers movably disposed in the fixe housing, each of the second staple drivers having a cam end and a driving end connecting to the driven end of a corresponding one of the first staple drivers, wherein, when the cartridge body is attached to the housing, driven ends of the second staple drivers are positioned to be sequentially engaged by a drive cam disposed in the housing to successively drive the second staple drivers against corresponding ones of the first staple drive to drive the first staple drivers from the storage to the staple firing position.
