The valve has an external stem with a built in break away feature which prevents external damage to the valve stem from damaging the sealing surface located inside the tire and wheel. The location of the seating/sealing surface inside the wheel, or inside a housing mounted on the wheel, provides protection from collision induced sudden tire pressure loss due to valve damage incurred during collisions or simply being struck by an object in a car wash or on the street.

The valve assembly according to claim 26, wherein said wall of said chamber is a rim for a pneumatic tire.28. The valve assembly according to claim 26, wherein said weakened portion is located proximate to the upper wall of the housing.29. The valve assembly according to claim 26, wherein said valve stem contains an actuator element for displacing the valve sealing element away from the valve sealing surface, and sad actuator element includes a weakened portion.30.
