A gingival retraction cord as in claim 1, wherein the flexible degradation-resistant strand has a thickness less than about 0. 15 mm. 3. A gingival retraction cord as in claim 1, wherein the flexible degradation-resistant strand has a thickness less than about 0.1 mm. 4. A gingival retraction cord as in claim 1, wherein the flexible degradation-resistant strand has a thickness less than about 0. 075 mm. 5. A gingival retraction cord as in claim 1, wherein the active agent comprises a hemostatic agent selected from the group consisting of potassium aluminum sulfate, aluminum ammonium sulfate, aluminum sulfate, aluminum chlorohydrate, aluminum acetate, ferric sulfate, ferric sub sulfate, ferric chloride, and mixtures thereof.
